Ghost Bike

When I posted the ghost bike photo a few weeks ago on tumblr nevershoutthatword  asked it if was for real, I presumed he meant the memorial ghost bikes.  The answer is yes, old bikes are painted white and placed at intersections where a cyclist died to raise awareness to motorists and cyclists alike.  It started in New York and has spread throughout the world.

I cycle past this bike memorial every day on my way to and from work so when I walked past it late one night after work drinks I took a shot from the deserted road, resting the camera on the tarmac with a long exposure time.

Rebecca Goosen was an architect cycling to work when she was crushed by a cement mixer turning left. Read more about the ghost bikes project
